Pre-Kindergarten – Grade 3

Adventures of a Crab

Meet Hermie, the hermit crab as he looks for a new home. The themes of protection, friends, food and neighbourhood are used to explore the wonders of the local waters through storytelling, games and hands-on explorations in this program for our youngest visitors. (1 hr)

Ocean Friends

Discover the diversity of the Salish Sea as we study our friends the octopus, jellies, other invertebrates and marine mammals. (1 hr)

Staying Alive

Learn how animals survive in different environments and what we can do to keep their habitats healthy. Small groups, led by our Oceaneers, will explore the different habitats looking for examples of these special adaptations. (1 hr 15 mins)

Whale Tales

Learn all about our local marine mammals in this overview of seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins and porpoises and learn what we can do to protect them. You’ll get to examine lots of bones, skulls and baleen. (1 hr)


Grade 4 – Grade 8

Biodiversity 101

Discover the biodiversity of life in the Salish Sea and learn how animals interact with their environment. Students will be introduced to research skills. (1 hr 15 mins)

Invert-ology

Students become scientists as they examine live marine invertebrates in an attempt to classify them into groups. (1 hr 30 mins)

Marine Mammal Stewards

Discover the biodiversity of marine mammals in the Salish Sea. Through hands on learning students will explore research skills and conservation issues. (1 hr)


Grade 9 – Grade 12

Conservation Connection: Marine Mammals

Students will be introduced to the diversity of marine mammals in the Salish Sea. Discover how biologists study these animals in the wild and determine what is affecting their populations. (1 hr)

Intertidal Marine Biology

Biodiversity of local invertebrates will be discussed. Students will have an introduction to species
classification. (2 hrs)


Self Guided Visits

Classes are always welcome to come on their own for a self-guided visit. Group rates are the same. To avoid over-crowding, please book your visit time as you would a regular program.

After any of the programs, classes are welcome to spend more time in the gallery exploring on their own. Pre-visit and post-visit resources will be available for all programs.

All programs are designed to support the Prescribed Learning Outcomes of the BC Ministry of Education’s Integrated Resource Packages.

Booking Information

Program cost

$5 (+ tax) per student, minimum $75 fee.

One teacher is admitted free with every class. For every 5 students (Pre K-8), one chaperone is admitted for free. For every 10 students (9-12), one chaperone is admitted for free. Other adults are admitted at a rate of $10 (+ tax). Adult chaperones may use their annual passes for admission.

Full payment is expected upon arrival. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, debit or credit card.
